August 11 – National Alliance of Organisations Working for Street Children-Nepal’s (NAOSC) Annual General (AGM) was concluded amid a function held in Kathmandu, yesterday. The AGM was chaired by Ms. Suchita Shah, the Immediate Past President of the Alliance, Secretary Pramod Prasad Ghimire CONCERN Nepal presented a brief progress report of NAOSC and Treasurer Ashok Shibakoti of Child Batabaran presented a brief financial report in the AGM. Both the progress report and financial report were unanimously adopted by the house with some revision in it.
The Alliance consisting of 10 leading child focused organisations viz., CONCERN Nepal, Voice of Children, Saath, Saathi, UPCA, CWIN, Child Batabaran, CPSC, CWSN, and Diyalo Paribar, had unanimously elected Dr. Bijaya Sainju as new President of the network. Upon recommendation of newly elected President Dr. Sainju a new Board committee was formed consisting of Mr. Krishna Kumar Thapa from Voice of Children as Secretary, Mr. Ashok Shibakoti from Child Batabaran as Treasurer and other four Board of Directors are Ms. Suchita Shah of Saath, Ms. Sakuntala Subba of UPCA, Dharan, Madhav Aacharya from CWSN Pokhara, and Bijesh Shrestha from CPCS. The general meeting unanimously approved the new Board of Directors.
The NAOSC, established thirteen years ago in 2006 is dedicated to eradicate street children problem in Nepal specially those living in the street of Kathmandu and in all urban settlements. The newly elected president Dr. Sainju proposed a South Asian Conference to be held in Kathmandu and develop connection network with international organizations working in the sectors of street children. Likewise, a new structure is required to develop based on Nepal’s New Constitution in all seven provinces of Nepal, for smooth operation of NAOSC.
