August 16 – The Bureau and Standard Regional Office Birgunj has taken action against 19 petrol pumps for cheating the consumers by installing software in the fuel distribution system.
The office has taken action against the 19 petrol pumps operating in Bara, Parsa and Rautahat districts.
According to Shasi Bhusan Yadav, chief of Bureau and Standard Regional Office Birgunj, they raided at least 891 petrol pumps in Bara, Parsa and Rauthahat districts.
Out of them, 19 petrol pumps were found cheating the consumers by dispensing less fuel than what consumers pay for with the help of the software, he said.
The office has fined Rs. 10,000 with a jail term of three months for each proprietor of Bijaya Oil Store, Mahamod Oil Store, Shivashankar Traders, Jaya Bikas Oil Store, Hariom Oil Store and Baba Oil Traders of Bara district, Yadav said.
Likewise, they filed cases against Amita Oil Store, Krishna Oil Store, Aayusha Oil Store, Sonu Oil Store of Bara district and Arnika Traders of Parsa district and Khan Oil Store of Rautahat district demanding a fine of Rs. 30,000 and a jail term of three years the proprietors of each petrol pump, he said.
Similarly, the office has filed a case against the Asian Paints of Hetauda on charge of not meeting the Standard Act and legal provision.
He said that they forwarded a process to take action against Kisan Agro Chemcial Private Limited of Parsa and Jagadamba Oil Traders of Bara as they were selling products in low quantity than the standard quantity.
He said that the office filed case against Hulas Steel Private Limited of Bara and Apollo Feeds Private Limited and Pancharatna Feeds Private Limited and Binayak Steels Private Limited of Chitwan demanding Rs. 10,000 fines and one year jail term for each.
They are cheating revenue by using weigh machines having more than the approved capacity.
